This is our story

San Francisco has a tenacious, pioneering spirit. After the great earthquake of 1906, the city recreated itself. The Fielding Hotel at the corner of Geary and Mason Streets, a modern building offering 152 rooms on eight floors, was built in 1909 and advertised ″comfortable appointments and courteous service…at a location in the midst of the amusement and shopping centers of San Francisco.″ The luxury hotel in San Francisco quickly established itself as a popular home away from home for travelers, with drive-up garage service, a coffee shop, cocktail lounge, and free television and radio in all rooms.de

The Fielding Hotel was later owned by Ernest F. Peterson and Edith G. Nichols, whose adopted son Robert Peterson became a renowned poet. Robert was greatly influenced by his childhood in the Fielding Hotel. Growing up in the hallways and inner sanctums of the old hotel, watching the passing parade of gamblers, race-trackers, jazz musicians, boxers, and traveling salesman, he developed a keen idiosyncratic eye for human nature that would later give his poems their particular style and charm.

In 1939, four additional floors were added to the San Francisco hotel, as part of the ‘Barbary Coast Modernization’ spurred by the Golden Gate International Exposition. The Fielding became the New Fielding Hotel, advertised as the city’s ‘Newest Smart Hotel, streamlined for finer living.’ From the 1940s to the 1960s, the hotel’s ground floor was home to Bob’s Steak House & Coffee Shop, Bob’s Nevada Lounge and Bob’s Prime Rib & Smor gasbord – a trio of popular eateries whose humorous advertising postcards are a fabulous example of the city’s unique mid – century style.

In 2014, following an extensive two – year renovation, we’ve restored the San Francisco boutique hotel in its entirety, reopening it as Hotel G, with 153 rooms. We’ve strived to preserve and reveal the luxury hotel’s historic features with a simple and relaxed design that makes you feel you are in your own home away from home. Just as it did for Robert Peterson, we hope our downtown San Francisco hotel inspires you and lends a little extra charm to your life.

A Lifestyle Concept Boutique Hotel

We love this city. A lot.

And we want you to love it too. So our staff at Hotel G San Francisco sat down and put together a list of quintessential San Francisco experiences. Stuff you don’t want to miss. So head out. Have fun. Let us know what you think.

Lombard Street/Cable Cars/Coit Tower

Three Bay Area classics you must experience while staying at HOTEL G SAN FRANCISCO. First off, we never get tired of driving down Lombard Street. It’s a crazy crooked street and most definitely worth checking out. Next, ride the cable car. Cliché? Sure. But even though it’s a cliché, it’s still awesome. After that, head to Coit Tower, where you get an incredible 360-degree view of the city. See why we think it’s the most beautiful city in the world. Take someone you love with you.

Moscone Convention Center

As the city’s premier meeting and exhibition facility, Moscone Center echoes San Francisco’s inimitable sense of style in the drama of its design and its undeniable sense of place.

The Ferry Building

Okay, local food movements seem to be, um, sprouting up everywhere, but the Ferry Building near our luxury San Francisco hotel hosts an incredible marketplace that is the place to go if you want to be in on the San Francisco culinary scene. Tons of local artisans with homemade cheeses, cured meats, herbs, pastry and spices. The farmers market is renowned as being one of the best in the US. Massively impressive.

A.C.T

Established in 1965, American Conservatory Theater is a Tony Award–winning theater and training institution whose work is energized and informed by a profound commitment to developing the next generation of theater artists. A.C.T. is the largest theater company in the San Francisco Bay Area and employs more than 800 people each season, from teachers and artists to technicians and administrative staff. During the past four decades, more than 300 A.C.T. productions have been seen by close to 7 million playgoers in the company’s magnificent Beaux Arts–style theater located in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square theater district.

Off the Grid

Yum. Yum. Off the Grid is a series of traveling food trucks that hook up at 23 weekly markets. Think of it as a roaming food extravaganza. The idea: a shared food experience as a way to connect communities. So share a Bao. Sample a chocolate taco. Try the Huli Huli Chicken or Kalua Pork and get transported to Hawaii. (Well, not, literally. But the food’s that good.) And you’re not going to find anything like it in any restaurant, so chow down while visiting our San Francisco design hotel.

Golden Gate Park

Here’s the lowdown. Golden Gate Park is one of the most beautiful, amazing parks you’ve ever seen. Hands down. Gardens in every flavor: the Japanese Tea Garden, the Botanical Garden, the Rose Garden, Tulip Gardens. The DeYoung Museum. You could spend days at the California Academy of Sciences. And if you’re traveling with kids to our Union Square hotel, Golden Gate Park is perfect for families. Incredible. Amazing. Must go.

Creativity Explored

Founded by Florence and Elias Katz in 1983, Creativity Explored in San Francisco is currently celebrating 31 years of assisting artists with developmental disabilities to pursue both their artistic passion and their quest to become working artists. Creativity Explored has two locations: the main gallery and studio in San Francisco’s Mission District, and a second studio in nearby Potrero Hill. Gallery programming now includes six exhibitions per year, with more than 15,000 people visiting the gallery and studio annually.
